The Hardrock mining industry creates severe environmental impacts to wetlands, streams, rivers, and lakes. This has caused hardships not only on Indian Reservations but on Communities located near these mines. This presentation outlines the impacts of hardrock mining to the environment, the laws and regulations that govern this, and what you can do to bring about a change. It does not require a Congressional Act. The two federal agencies responsible for these regulations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers can change their regulations governing hardrock mining, tailings disposal, and fill in wetlands permits to change this.
